The acoustics can also be changed using 13 adjustable acoustic reflectors. The Fartein Valen (symphony hall) has 1500 seats and the ceiling can be lowered up to six metres to alter the acoustics. The halls share a foyer and restaurant, complemented by 180 other rooms which include rehearsal spaces, dressing rooms, meeting venues, cafes, bars, community facilities and an outdoor amphitheatre. The soundproofing is so efficient that a rock concert can take place in one at the same time as a classical event in the other, with no disturbance to the classical audience or musicians. Each of the two halls - one for orchestral music, the other multi-purpose - has its own independent soundproofing and load bearing systems. This world class venue actually features two halls, with DiGiCo mixing consoles chosen for mixing the amplified sound in both.ĭesigned by Oslo architects Ratio Arkitekter, the 13,800m2 venue has been designed to host all types of cultural events. Deliveries will start in May 2010 and the new head office is scheduled for completion in 2012. The steel frame structures will be manufactured at Ruukki's units in Per?sein?joki and Ylivieska in Finland and in Balabanovo in Russia. Ruukki's customers in DnB NOR's new head office project are the Norwegian property development company Oslos S Utvikling AS in the frame contract and Kynningsrud Fundamentering AS and Hallingdal Bergboring AS in pile deliveries. The pile casing serves as a drilling pipe during installation and as part of the load-bearing pile structure in the finished project. The solution also reduces adverse environmental impacts on site. This method means fewer piles are required and speeds up installation work. In addition, large diameter RD drilled piles - developed by Ruukki and installed by drilling - will be utilised for the first time in Norway in the project. Ruukki is responsible for the design, manufacture, installation and fire protection of the steel frame in the head office project. The frame structure of the entire building will be optimised by Ruukki in close cooperation with Spenncon. Ruukki received the order from Oslos S Utvikling AS together with Spenncon, which will provide the prefabricated concrete elements. We have every confidence in Ruukki's ability to manage such demanding projects," says Project Director ?ystein O. "Compatibility of the steel frame and other structures in this architecturally ambitious 17-storey building places special demands on the design of the steel frame structures. DnB NOR's new head office to be built in the centre of the Norwegian capital of Oslo will have an exceptional honeycombed, multiportal structure. The contracts are worth a total of around EUR 8 million.
